Accu-Chek Performa Glucose Test Strips : Glucose Test : Glucose Meter

Click This Picture

A glucose meter (or glucometer) is a medical device for determining the approximate concentration of glucose in the blood. It can also be a strip of glucose paper dipped into a substance and measured to the glucose chart. It be from negative to extreme. It is a key element of home blood glucose monitoring (HBGM) by people with diabetes mellitus or hypoglycemia. A small drop of blood, obtained by pricking the skin with a lancet, is placed on a disposable test strip that the meter reads and uses to calculate the blood glucose level. The meter then displays the level in mg/dl or mmol/l.

FAQ

1. Why did I find a black activation chip in my new vial of test strips instead of the usual white code chip?
The code chips that come with your test strips are changing from white to black. Once you receive a black code chip—which is called a black activation chip—insert it into the meter. You do not need to change the black activation chip again even if new test strip boxes contain different coloured code chips or different code numbers.
2. How does the black activation chip work?
The black activation chip permanently replaces the white code chip found in boxes of Accu-Chek Performa test strips. After you replace your current white code chip with a black activation chip, you will never need to replace the code chip.
In other words, the black activation chip calibrates your meter for all Accu-Chek Performa test strips that will be manufactured now and in the future.
3. My friend/family member already has an activation chip, but my last vial of test strips still had a white code chip. How and when can I get a black activation chip?
Within the next few weeks or months, you should also find a black activation chip inside a new box of Accu-Chek Performa test strips instead of the standard white code chip. After you replace your current white code chip with a black activation chip, you will no longer need to change the code chip each time you open a new box of test strips. Instead, you can simply discard the code chip (or activation chip) you find with each new box of test strips you use.
4. Will this change have any effect on the accuracy of my results?
No. Use of a black activation chip will have no impact on the accuracy of your blood glucose results.
5. Does using black activation chip change anything else about my test strips or my meter?
Only one thing changes: After you insert a black activation chip, your meter will no longer provide an automatic warning message telling you that your vial of test strips is going to expire or has expired. However, Accu-Chek Test strips are good until the expiration date stated on the vial.
Nothing else will change. For example, your meter will still perform all the usual safety checks, such as detecting if the test strip is damaged or has been exposed to high humidity.
6. Without an automatic strip expiration warning, how can I avoid testing with an expired strip?
As users of most other blood glucose test strips do, you can simply check the expiration date clearly printed on your current vial of Accu-Chek Performa test strips. After this date, you should discard any remaining test strips and use a new vial of strips.
7. What happens if I insert black activation chip into my meter and then travel to another country where I purchase test strips that include an activation chip with a code number different from my current activation chip?
Don't worry, there is no risk of getting inaccurate results even if you use test strips purchased in a country where activation chips have a different code number.
8. I have inserted black activation chip into my meter. However, my new purchase Accu-Chek Performa test strips still have a white code chip and it shows a different code on the vial. Can I still use those strips with my black activation chip?
Yes. There is no risk of getting inaccurate results if you have a black activation chip inserted in your meter and you test with strips that come with a white code chip. Once you insert an activation chip, you can leave it in place for as long as you own and use your current meter.
9. Does the process for performing a blood glucose test—or a control test—change after black activation chip is inserted?
No. These processes do not change.
10. What happens if I lose or throw away my black activation chip when they are no longer included with the test strips?
You can call the Accu-Chek® Customer Care 1-800-88-1313 to get a free replacement black activation chip.
11. Where can I get more information?
You can check the package insert inside boxes of Accu-Chek Performa test strips that include a black activation chip. Alternatively you can call the Accu-Chek® Customer Care 1-800-88-1313.
